The funniest episode of Platonic Season 2 has arrived.
If you saw the Platonic Season 2 trailer, you’ve probably been eagerly waiting for the scene of Will playing golf and hitting his future father-in-law in the eye.
These kinds of disasters only happen to Will, and the aftermath surprised everyone.
Will had gone to San Diego to break up with Jenna, but after injuring her father, he felt more trapped than ever, and made a rash decision, as he often jumped without thinking.
Losing an Eye, but Gaining a Son
Will had not perfected his golfing skills and won’t be entering any championships soon.
He’s not the type to hang out and country clubs or golf, yet Jenna and her family continued to mold him.
Will looked so nervous, and his swing was so powerful that it popped Jenna’s dad right in the eye.
While that looked horribly painful, everyone’s reactions were hilarious, likely because of the shock.
That much blood was gruesome. I agree with Sylvia.
Hank was a trooper, though. He didn’t blame Will. His sentiment was endearing, yet it put shackles around Will’s neck.
Calling him family only cemented that he couldn’t ever leave that family since he owed them for their kindness.
Jump Then Think
Will was the definition of not looking before he leaps.
He kept complaining about the lack of chemistry and sex he has with Jenna, but he decided to move up the wedding as a surprise to make up for injurring her dad.
It was a sweet gesture, but the wrong move, and everyone knew it.
Will and Jenna could not agree on anything, from the music to the food. She was an elegant Wolfgang Puck kind of girl, while he preferred the In and Out food truck.
For a wedding, totally the elegant Wolfgang Puck, and it was amusing watching them try to meld their tastes.
But they couldn’t meld their different faiths, and the celebrants and Jenna knew something was off as these plans were rushed.
Shouldn’t they have discussed these issues already while wedding planning, even if it was further out?
Sex Matters
Poor Will. It’s difficult not to feel sorry for him. He got himself into quite the pickle.
There aren’t many people who would enter into marriage hearing their partner dislikes sex.
Will and Jenna’s lack of chemistry had prompted him to want to break up, so he was thrilled when she initiated physical intimacy by climbing into his lap at the hospital.
He thought the drought was over. But it turned out that Jenna only became more intimate because she was scared about her dad’s accident. A crisis indeed brings people closer.
She later admitted to Will that while she wanted to be connected to him, she wasn’t that interested in sex.
Their differing expressions were comical. While she looked relieved, he looked horrified to be trapped in this relationship. No wonder he wanted out.
He almost confessed he wanted out before the guys arrived, and they brought a new layer of comedy.
Reggie and Omar thought he should get married if he signed a pre-nup because then he would get half of her money, a hefty sum even if he never got sex.
I couldn’t believe Will considered that because he loves women and sex, but the choice ended up being made for him.
Will and Sylvia are Each Other’s Ride or Die
Will seemed almost terrified of Jenna since he was afraid to return to San Diego to break up with her without Sylvia beside him.
Something was endearing about having a friend who supports and challenges you through life’s challenges. Even if Will was distracted and harsh, he had a point that Sylvia needed to chase her dreams, too aggressively.
When Will and Sylvia celebrated both succeeding, it reminded me of Cory and Shawn’s unique handshake on Boy Meets World. Will and Sylvia have their own antics that no one else understands.
Sylvia was the only person who supported Will, no matter what he decided. His other friends were divided on whether sex or money mattered more..
She was Will’s ride or die, and the ending scene was mainly funny, but a little said. It’s never fun to see someone be called pathetic, but it was hilarious watching Jenna’s dad chase Will and Sylvia, especially with only one eye.
No matter what, they had each other. The episode ended as it started, together with them commiserating in the car.
Closing Thoughts
There wasn’t enough Charlie in Platonic Season 2 Episode 4. Luke MacFarlane excels at subtle comedy, and facial expressions, and Charlie’s expressions were priceless when Sylvia suggested planning Charlie’s work party.
Charlie and Stewart made me laugh because Stewart wanted to liven up the dull office party and help Sylvia out, but Charlie seemed unsure about having his wife host the party.
It was so realistic because Stewart needed Charlie to make a decision, and he didn’t want to interfere with the marital drama.
Hopefully, we’ll see Sylvia plan this party since watching her interact with her husband and his friends will bring a different perspective to the series.
They have a fun marriage, but they’re usually dealing with her drama. I’m ready for an arc to focus more on Charlie, too.
