Whoopi Goldberg has an estimated net worth of $20 million. Her wealth stems partly from her Oscar-winning acting career. However, she’s scaled back on acting, and the majority of her money reportedly comes from The View. How much? Well, the comedian is facing major backlash for bragging about her massive salary. Keep reading to find out why people are upset.
ABC Reportedly Demanding The View Hosts Take Pay Cuts
The View was a groundbreaking show when it premiered in 1997. Barbara Walters envisioned an all-female panel from different generations and beliefs. She served as the show’s co-host and executive producer from the beginning until 2014. The iconic journalist passed away in 2022 at the age of 93.

Whoopi Goldberg and the current co-hosts continue the legacy that Barbara Walters left behind. The View returns this fall for Season 30. Rosie O’Donnell expressed interest in returning as a guest host for the milestone season. The network reportedly hasn’t sent out invitations yet. Bringing former co-hosts back may not be in their budget.
The network is reportedly demanding several of the current co-hosts take pay cuts, in addition to slashing the wardrobe budget. The hosts reportedly already took a pay cut ahead of Season 29. However, Whoopi Goldberg already makes a massive amount on the show after 19 seasons as moderator.
Whoopi Goldberg Faces Backlash For Bragging About Salary
The last public record of Whoopi Goldberg’s status at The View was a four-year contract in 2021. The contract has since expired, with no updated reports on her current status or salary. However, the show’s moderator recently hinted to Keke Palmer that her payday is massive and would “shock” fans.

The same fans who have long complained that Whoopi Goldberg puts little effort into hosting the show because of her guaranteed large salary. Viewers aren’t the only ones blasting Whoopi for her “shocking” paycheck. The View’s number-one hater, Megyn Kelly, blasted the actress as a “fool.”
“So, if she’s lamenting it’s too strong… [or] it’s too low, she’s a fool. And if she’s bragging that it’s too big, she’s unlikable. I mean, either way, this is not a great comment,” the former Fox News host said on The Megyn Kelly Show.
Whoopi Goldberg’s pay is reportedly between $6 and $8 million per season. “Yashar Ali, independent journalist, is reporting that he did reporting on Whoopi not long ago and she was getting paid $6 million a year,” Megyn Kelly told listeners.
The View host did say she felt “lucky” to get such a huge payday when people around the country are looking for work. But Megyn Kelly blasted her for comparing herself to the working class. “I don’t think she does know. I don’t think she knows a thing,” the news anchor said about Whoopi Goldberg relating to the “working girl.”
Whoopi Goldberg hasn’t responded to the criticism. Tell us in the comments if you agree that she’s a “fool” for discussing it with Keke Palmer.
