“I am the person I am today because of the people that help me… and the people that hurt me.” Vertical has revealed the official trailer for a film titled Lola, marking the feature directorial debut of actress Nicola Peltz Beckham (formerly known just Nicola Peltz – most will recognize her from her role in Transformers: Age of Extinction or on “Bates Motel”). Not to be confused with the other indie sci-fi film titled Lola from last year, this is an entirely different one. Peltz Beckham also stars as the titular Lola James. Lola works to save enough money to get her little brother, Arlo, out of their toxic home. Arlo keeps her hopeful, until one tragic night, when her whole world gets uprooted. From that moment on, nothing will ever be the same. The cast includes Virginia Madsen, Trevor Long, Luke David Blumm, Raven Goodwin, Sunil Narkar, Stephen Graybill, Richie Merritt, and Kevin Toms. Doesn’t look half bad, but seems like a festival film that apparently has not shown at any festivals – with cliche drama and asshole parents and drugs and more.
Here’s the first official trailer for Nicola Peltz Beckham’s Lola, direct from Vertical’s YouTube:
“In the almost six years since we began this journey with Lola, it is thrilling beyond measure to finally be sharing this story with audiences. Despite a life of hardship, abuse and generational trauma, Lola is a fighter – driven by unconditional love and a refusal to submit to the unsatisfactory future that has been forced upon her. It’s a heartfelt story that we hope everyone can relate to and hopefully feel inspired by in some way.” –Nicola Peltz Beckham
Set in 2002 Middle America, Lola revolves around nineteen-year-old Lola James (Peltz Beckham) who is desperately working to save enough money to get her little brother, Arlo (Luke David Blumm), out of their toxic home dominated by their mother, Mona (Madsen). All Lola wants is for Arlo to have a chance at the life she never had, nor will. One tragic night her whole world gets uprooted, and from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same. Lola is written and directed by American actress turned filmmaker Nicola Peltz Beckham, making her feature directorial debut with this project. It’s poduced by Will McCance. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Vertical will debut Peltz Beckham’s Lola film in select US theaters + on VOD starting on February 9th, 2024 coming soon this winter. Look good?
