Matthew Lillard is Getting Ready to Star in a Vampire Movie

Matthew Lillard is much-loved in the horror community. His role in Scream is an all-timer. However, he kept that train a rollin’ with Thirteen Ghosts, Hackers, SLC Punk, Twin Peaks: The Return and more. In a recent big move he started a production company dubbed Midnite Movie Club. The first of the company’s films is going to be none other than a vampire movie titled Let Them Die.

Midnite Movie Club is the child of Lillard and director Bill Whirity. One of the most interesting things about their production company is that it will be part of the the NFT business. That’s right, their first film, Let Them Die will be an NFT.

The goal? Well, it’s to set up a “decentralized” model in which the audience is going to be in control of what the company makes. NFT owners will in turn finance entire or partial projects. Its a really interesting way to get backers and producers onboard.

The down side? Well, its NFTs. The general public either doesn’t know what an NFT is or hates them with a blind fury. So, that in itself is going to be the uphill battle… at least initially. But, if someone smarter than myself figures this whole NFT funding thing out in relation to film then it could really lead the future and be a major part of indie films.

Kevin Smith is also running an NFT backed project for his next horror film Killroy Was Here.

“NFTs, blockchain and Web3 are the future of the internet. In the coming years, this technology will revolutionize many aspects of our daily lives and the film industry is no exception.” Lillard and  Whirity said in a statement. “Most people think of NFTs as just the artwork, but it is the underlying technology behind them that makes the Midnite Movie Club possible. The MMC is a private community, like a country club or a gym, and your NFT acts as your membership card. It is your key to the kingdom, so to speak, and it is how you cast your vote and help the filmmakers develop their films. Using this system, viewers will be able to both vote on which films get greenlit as well as on creative decisions the filmmakers offer up to the community throughout production. A few examples of things you will vote on are: deciding which actors we will make offers to first, picking costumes, props, or creature designs, choosing our movie poster design, and more. In addition to choosing what movies the company will produce, the community will also be given exclusive access to special features like viewing audition tapes, set photos and videos, concept art and storyboard, and participating in Live AMAs and live tours from the sets.”

I’m interested to see how this goes and of course, I’m looking forward to Lillard in a vampire movie!

What do you think about NFTs? Are you a fan? Have you purchased any? I would love to hear your comments on our social page comments.
