Joy Behar finally returned to The View after dislocating her shoulder. She was off the show for nearly a month while she recovered from the fall. She made good on her promise to reveal the nasty details of her recovery. But fans are worried after she clung to Sara Haines amid speculation that ABC is pushing the longtime host, 84, to retire.
Joy Behar Compares Injury To ‘Torture’
Sunny Hostin opened the episode on October 1st by addressing Joy Behar’s surprising absence. Whoopi Goldberg was on a reduced schedule at the time to film a movie, and Joy was supposed to fill in as moderator. However, Sunny revealed that the beloved host was injured in a fall backstage the day before. Joy Behar had suffered a dislocated shoulder.

Her return was pushed back several times as her recovery took longer than expected. In the last update, she promised to share the full story of the painful injury upon her return. Joy Behar returned to the Hot Topics table on Tuesday, October 27, after more than three weeks away.
Elton John’s “The B*tch is Back” played as Joy Behar made her way to the table to rousing applause. She joked that ABC should have played “God Save the Queen” instead. After an emotional reunion with her co-hosts, Joy Behar made good on her promise and revealed details about the injury.
“I fell — bad. I mean, I went down hard, in this building, and I dislocated my shoulder. It’s worse than childbirth.” She told the audience. “I would have given up names to the CIA; it’s that kind of torture. It was that bad.”

Joy Behar shared that she struggled with the MRI to diagnose the injury because she’s claustrophobic. “I have to say one thing. I did do an MRI, because they have to see what’s wrong with you. Three hours … I was sedated — I was asleep the whole time. It’s like s*x,” she quipped.
The View Fans Worried As Longtime Host, 84, Clings To Sara Haines Onstage
The View was reportedly considering making changes to how the hosts enter the studio to ensure Joy Behar wouldn’t fall again. However, she walked from backstage to the table like always. Sara Haines has escorted Joy Behar, 84, to her seat most of the time since Joy’s foot injury in late 2025 when she dropped an iPad on her toe.
But this time, Joy Behar clutched Sara Haines tighter than ever before. Fans noticed that Joy was favoring her injured left arm. While viewers were worried about the beloved host, they’re glad she’s back. She hasn’t revealed whether she needs surgery on her shoulder. Stay tuned for updates.
