Mel Gibson‘s The Resurrection Of The Christ movies are near completion as Lionsgate shares a promising update.
What’s the latest Resurrection of the Christ update?
Speaking to Deadline, Lionsgate’s President of International Helen Lee-Kim shared a major update on Mel Gibson’s big-budget The Resurrection Of The Christ movies. “I have seen some things. Mel is finishing up this massive production.”
“The faith-based audience is going to find this hugely appealing, but it’ll have really broad audience appeal too,” she added while making a prediction.
The Resurrection Of The Christ Part One and Part Two have been in development for several years. However, based on Lee-Kim’s update, overall production is now nearing completion.
Gibson’s upcoming movies will feature an entirely new cast, with Jaakko Ohtonen as Jesus and Mariela Garriga as Mary Magdalene. The cast also includes Pier Luigi Pasino as Peter, Kasia Smutniak as Mary, Riccardo Scamarcio as Pontius Pilate, and Rupert Everett as Abraham.

The director has previously described parts of the movie as “some crazy stuff.” Gibson added, “I think in order to tell the story properly, you have to really start with the fall of the angels, which means you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You need to go to hell.”
The new movies are expected to replicate the 2004 film’s box office success. The R-rated original made over $620 million globally against a $25 million production budget, reports The Numbers. In North America, it earned more than $370 million domestically.
As for the upcoming movies, Part One is set to release on Good Friday, March 26, 2027, while Part Two will arrive on Ascension Day, May 6, 2027.
