Joy Behar Injured In Backstage Fall
Sunny Hostin opened the October 1, 2026, episode ofThe View instead of Joy Behar. Sunny revealed that Joy had dislocated her shoulder in a backstage fall the day before. Joy Behar’s rep confirmed the news. “[She] caught a heel backstage but is on the mend,” they said in a statement.

Joy Behar was expected to return this week, but is still recovering. It’s not the first time she missed the show due to an injury. She missed several shows in late 2025 after dropping an iPad on her foot, breaking her toe. However, the recovery is taking longer than expected. When she does return, it might be to announce her retirement.
ABC Pushes The View HostTo Retire Amid ‘Liability’ Concerns
Joy Behar was one of the original hosts ofThe View. She’s been on 28 of the daytime talk show’s 30 seasons. But this might be her last season. ABC is reportedly worried that her mobility issues are a “liability.” Viewers noticed last year that Sara Haines often escorts Joy to her chair after she tumbled off it a few years ago.
An insider revealed toThe U.S. Sun that Joy Behar also needs help getting around backstage. It’s become a huge concern for the network. “People are increasingly worried about her falling. It’s become a dangerous situation, and nobody wants to be responsible if something happens,” the insider said.

The source added, “It’s much worse than anyone is saying publicly; she has become a major liability backstage. She’s unsteady on her feet, and there are serious concerns about her safety.”
ABC is allegedly encouraging Joy Behar to retire “gracefully.” The network wants to “give her a huge farewell, celebrate her extraordinary career and let her leave with dignity.”
However, the source claimed that Joy Behar absolutely refuses to consider retiring. “Joy isn’t going anywhere voluntarily,” the insider continued. She still thinks she can do the job, and nobody has the courage to tell her it’s time to leave,” the insider said.
Another source told the outlet that another option is for Joy Behar to scale back her days on the show. She already has Mondays off. However, she hostsThe Weekend View along with Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Ana Navarro.
The insider noted that even Barbara Walters knew when it was time to hang it up. “Barbara Walters was 84 when she left The View after going part-time,” the source said. Barbara Walters retired in 2014 and passed away in 2022.
